Clean Over Rough: Spyro Champions Morality in Music Industry

Nigerian singer Oludipe David, popularly known as Spyro, has made it clear that he is carving out a different path in the music industry—one that stays true to his values. In a recent interview with Saturday Beat, the Who’s Your Guy? crooner boldly stated, “I don’t do rough music, I do clean music.”

Spyro explained that despite the pressure to conform to the often explicit and controversial standards of the entertainment industry, he remains committed to producing music that aligns with his beliefs. “I’d like people to perceive my contribution as clean. I want to be known as the guy who advocated for clean music, clean visuals, clean everything,” he said.

The singer also had words of encouragement for upcoming artists, stressing that it is possible to achieve success without compromising integrity. “The reason a lot of people compromise is because they feel like if you don’t do it that way, you won’t make money. But I am proof. Look at me—I’m doing clean music, and I’m doing great in the industry.”

He added, “Do not compromise. They that know their God shall be strong and do exploits. The problem is not the music; the problem is knowing your God.”

Spyro has consistently used his platform to express his Christian faith. At the 77th Headies Awards, he made headlines by arriving with a Bible in hand, standing firm in his convictions. “We are not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ,” he said. “That’s why I’m here with my Bible and always wearing my Jesus boy cap and pendant. No Jesus, no life.”

He further explained that although he doesn’t carry the Bible everywhere, he considers himself a “walking Bible” and chose to include it as part of his award-night look to send a message.

Although he didn’t take home any awards at the Headies, Spyro recently celebrated a major personal milestone—becoming a homeowner. On April 22, 2025, he shared a video of his new, elegantly furnished house on Instagram, reflecting on how people once doubted his future in music because of his overtly faith-based approach.

Now, with success under his belt and a strong message of staying true to one’s values, Spyro continues to stand as a beacon for artists who want to thrive without sacrificing who they are.
