Highway robbers kill one, injure four others near Kintampo

One person has been shot dead by armed robbers on the Kintampo-Tamale highway.

Four others sustained injuries when the bus on which they were travelling was attacked by the robbers.

The vehicle, a Sssanyong bus with registration number GC 1583-12, was travelling from Tamale to Kintampo, a press release issued Monday and signed by the Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP David S. Eklu said.

It said the Service was investigating the incident to arrest the perpetrators and have also taken steps to increase police presence on the Kintampo-Tamale highway.

The statement added that, a team of police officers, led by the Director-General Operations have been deployed to Kintampo and surrounding communities as part of re-strategizing engagement with communities to fight highway robberies.

“Residents within Kintampo and communities on the Kintampo-Tamale highway stretch are entreated to volunteer information leading to the arrest of all suspects involved in the robbery by calling 191 on all networks, 18555 (on Vodafone and MTN) or to any nearest police station. They can also send information to the Ghana Police Service on our facebook and twitter@ghPoliceService”, the statement added.
