
The 3rd Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games have officially kicked off in Cape Coast, hosted by Cape Coast Technical University. Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, launched the event at the Robert Mensah Stadium, emphasizing its role in identifying and nurturing sports talents across technical universities nationwide.
The games will serve as a platform for competition and talent identification, with the aim of preparing athletes for major events like the Commonwealth and Olympic games.
The GHATUSA Games holding through to Sunday, April 13, 2025, will bring together ten Technical Universities in Ghana. It will offer students the opportunity to compete in various sporting disciplines including football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, athletics, and taekwondo, while fostering national unity and school pride.
The GHATUSA Games is one of the important platforms for identifying and nurturing sports potentials in Ghana.
The Buem MP, Adams commended GHATUSA organizers for their commitment to nurturing sports talents and highlighted the challenges facing the sports sector, including inadequate infrastructure, insufficient funding, and limited grassroots development.
The government, under President John Dramani Mahama, is committed to resetting the sports ecosystem through infrastructure development and sustained funding mechanisms.
Adams announced plans to establish a School Sports Agency to organize major school events and manage young talents. The government also intends to engage security services to reserve slots for outstanding athletes identified through competitions like GHATUSA.
