The Member of Parliament for Tano South, Hon. Charles Akwasi Asiedu has strongly reacted to allegations made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour suggested that two aircraft suspected to be carrying cocaine and large sums of money had landed in the country.
In an interview with Citizen Kofi Owusu on Ahotor FM, Hon. Asiedu expressed deep disappointment over the claims, especially coming from someone who is not only a fellow MP but also a pastor. “It pained me to hear such things,” he said. “In Ghana, we hold pastors in high regard. So, when we hear damaging stories involving them, it’s worrying. This time, it seems someone is trying to use Rev. Ntim Fordjour to push an agenda.”
He continued by suggesting that the use of Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s dual status as a clergyman and legislator was a calculated attempt to make Ghanaians believe a false narrative. “They knew what they were saying wasn’t true, but they used a pastor-MP because they knew people would believe it,” he said. “Now that he’s being asked for evidence, he’s claiming it was only a suspicion.”
Hon. Asiedu cautioned the public against taking such serious claims lightly. “Some statements need deep reflection. We shouldn’t accept everything at face value,” he advised.
The MP also accused Rev. Ntim Fordjour of hiding behind constitutional provisions—specifically Articles 117 and 118, which provide certain immunities to Members of Parliament. He also criticized the Minority Leader for reportedly writing to the Speaker of Parliament, seeking protection for Rev. Ntim Fordjour from potential legal processes. “He can not be allowed to go free just because he’s an MP,” Hon. Asiedu stated. “If it were someone else, the situation would have been handled very differently.”
He concluded by urging Ghanaians not to lose hope in former President John Dramani Mahama, insisting that he remains committed to retrieving stolen state resources. “There is no cocaine in the country. If anyone has concrete evidence, they should come forward with it,” he declared.
