President Mahama Appoints New Acting Service Chiefs for Ghana Armed Forces

President John Mahama has made a significant move to restructure the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) by appointing new Acting Service Chiefs. This change is aimed at strengthening the nation’s defense architecture and ensuring continued excellence in military operations.

The newly appointed Acting Service Chiefs are:

– *Acting Chief of the Defence Staff*: Brigadier General William Agyapong, who brings vast experience in military operations and strategic defense planning.

– *Acting Chief of Army Staff*: Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, with a track record of effective leadership in ground operations and military intelligence.

– *Acting Chief of Naval Staff*: Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing, who has a background in maritime security and is expected to bolster the navy’s capability in safeguarding Ghana’s coastal waters.

– *Acting Chief of Air Staff*: Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong, who is expected to enhance Ghana’s air defense capabilities and disaster response operations.

– *Acting Chief of Staff*: Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, who will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth administrative coordination within the Armed Forces.

These appointments take effect from March 24, 2025, and are pending consultation with the Council of State, as required by law. President Mahama expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Service Chiefs, led by General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, for their dedicated service to the nation.

This restructuring reflects the administration’s commitment to modernizing Ghana’s military operations and addressing emerging security challenges. With these appointments, President Mahama has set in motion a new chapter for the Ghana Armed Forces, bringing fresh perspectives and operational strategies to Ghana’s defense and security architecture.
