“We should refurbish the Cape Coast Stadium and keep it for Black Stars matches only” – Sports and Recreation Minister, Hon. Kofi Adams

Ghana Sports and Recreation minister, Kofi Adams has announced plans to refurbish the Cape Coast Sports Stadium exclusively for Black Stars matches.

This decision aims to address challenges with Ghana’s sports infrastructure, ensuring a suitable venue for international football games.

The Cape Coast Sports Stadium, located in the Central Region of Ghana, is a multi-use stadium primarily used for football, with a capacity of around 15,000 to 20,000 people.

Hon. Kofi Adams has stated that his government intends to renovate the stadium and reserve it solely for the Black Stars, Ghana’s national men’s football team.

This move is part of a strategy to tackle the country’s ailing sports infrastructure, particularly the lack of CAF-certified stadiums for Category A matches.

An interesting aspect is that no club teams will be allowed to play at the stadium once refurbished, which could impact local football dynamics but ensure the stadium remains in top condition for national team games.
