In a move that is set to revolutionize the sports landscape in Ghana,Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has been named the New Director-General of the National Sports Authority after a careful consideration and assessment.

This development has been hailed by stakeholders, including Member of Parliament for Tain, Hon. Adama Sulemana, a member of the Sports and Recreation Committee, who believes that Ankrah’s expertise and vision will bring about the much-needed changes in the NSA.
“I believe Yaw Ampofo Ankrah will bring changes at the NSA, he has very limited time to make an impact there,” Hon. Sulemana told Channel One TV, highlighting the urgency and importance of Ankrah’s mission.
With a proven track record in sports administration, Ankrah is expected to hit the ground running, implementing policies and programs that will promote sports development, identify and nurture talent, and enhance Ghana’s reputation in international sports competitions.
As the NSA’s Director-General, Ankrah will be tasked with overseeing the development and implementation of sports policies, programs, and projects, most especially with the maintenance of the various national sports stadia and infrastructure.
He will work closely with stakeholders, including the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ghana Olympic Committee, and other national sports federations, to ensure that Ghana’s sports sector is aligned with international best practices.
Hon. Sulemana’s endorsement of Ankrah’s appointment is a testament to the confidence that stakeholders have in his ability to transform the NSA. Ankrah’s experience, expertise, and passion for sports make him an ideal candidate for the role.
His appointment announced on Tuesday, marks the beginning of a new era for Ghanaian sports, one that is characterized by a renewed focus on excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.
As the former Head of Sports for IMAX Media settles into his new role, he will be expected to address the challenges that have hindered the growth and development of Ghanaian sports.
These challenges include inadequate infrastructure, limited resources, and a lack of investment in grassroots sports development. Ankrah’s vision for the NSA is one that prioritizes the needs of athletes, coaches, and sports administrators, providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed.
