Nigerian actor Uzor Arukwe has responded to criticism surrounding his role in the recently released YouTube film Love in Every Word, which has ignited widespread discussions online.
The film, which has gained significant traction, particularly among female viewers, explores themes of love, responsibility, and financial commitment in relationships. However, some male viewers have pushed back against its portrayal of men, sparking debates on social media.
Critics argue that Arukwe’s character—a loving and generous Odogwu who fights for and spends on his woman—is unrealistic.
One X user called him out, saying, “Anambra men are not simps. Your movie is only liked by ladies who have always fantasized about an Odogwu that will spend his last dime on them.”
In response, Arukwe defended both his character and the film’s message, stating, “Taking care of your woman and spending money on her doesn’t make you a simp. It only makes you a responsible man. How else do you show love to your partner if you can’t take care of their needs from the abundance of your wealth?”
His response has reignited conversations about financial responsibility in relationships. While many applaud his stance, others argue that love and masculinity should not be solely defined by financial provision.
Reactions from Social Media
“I knew this movie would trigger people who mistreat their partners.”
“Broke, irresponsible men can’t handle this film!”
“Stingy men haven’t been at peace since this movie dropped.”
“Odogwu has spoken! Meanwhile, others are still asking, ‘What do you bring to the table?’”
“Odogwu Parara wasn’t just a spender—he was a good listener, intentional, expressive, romantic, and available. So, to the men triggered by his spending, OPEN YOUR EYES and learn what else he did in that relationship!”
