The Minister of State for Government Communications, Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has outlined an ambitious Agricultural for Economic Transformation Agenda, a comprehensive initiative aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The programme includes multiple projects designed to enhance food production, support farmers, and create employment opportunities. Key among them are:
The Feed Ghana Project, Ghana Green Development Project, Vegetable Development Project, Nkuko Nketekete (Poultry Farm-to-Table Project)
The government is prioritizing the poultry sector under this initiative, acknowledging that the industry has collapsed in recent years. The Nkuko Nketenkete project seeks to restore the sector, ensuring a steady supply of poultry products from farms to tables across the country.
He highlighted that the broader agenda includes supporting farmers involved in animal husbandry, snail rearing, vegetable farming, and grain production. Crops such as soya beans, rice, yams, and cassava are also part of the focus.
Hon. Kwakye emphasized that this is only the beginning as the government has allocated GH¢1.5 billion to kick-start the programme.
“Given the state of the economy and resource constraints, this initial investment is a crucial first step. If we maintain consistency, the industry will grow, farmers will reinvest, and new investors will be attracted to the sector,” he explained.
Hon. Kwakye added that as the economy expands and more funds become available, financial allocations to agriculture will increase.
Minister of State for Government Communications, Hon. Felix Kwakye stressed that the transformation agenda goes beyond simply distributing chicks to farmers. It is a broad, well-structured programme designed to strengthen the entire agricultural value chain.
“It’s not just about Nkuko Nketenkete or little chicks. This is a comprehensive agricultural development programme aimed at boosting food security, creating jobs, and transforming the economy,” he concluded.
