Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo Akweley, has reaffirmed her commitment to tackling sanitation challenges in the region, stating that she remains undeterred by resistance from certain quarters.
Speaking on the issue, she emphasized that every position comes with both advantages and disadvantages, but she is fully prepared to face any obstacles that may arise.
Hon. Ocloo Akweley stressed that decisions can only be made by those with the mandate to do so, and as the appointed Regional Minister, she is determined to carry out her responsibilities without fear or favor.
“People see me as a woman, but I have the strength of a man in me. I am not the type that can be intimidated. We are doing the right thing—it’s as simple as that,” she asserted.
Highlighting the need for public service to leave a lasting impact, the Minister dismissed the notion that her role is merely administrative.
“I was not appointed to sit in the office, enjoy air conditioning, and leave without making a difference. No. You have to leave a legacy. That is all we are asking for,” she stated.
She further urged stakeholders to support the government’s initiatives aimed at improving sanitation in Greater Accra.
According to her, anyone attempting to interfere with the efforts will be dealt with appropriately through the necessary channels.
“If anybody tries to interfere, we have the appropriate authorities to report them to. But if you have the mandate, you must fulfill your duty without fear or favor,” she warned.
Hon. Ocloo Akweley also spoke about the importance of taking bold steps in leadership.
Citing her recent directive on streetlights, she revealed that she had set a 50-day target to fix 70% of non-functional streetlights in Greater Accra, despite not having a budget at the time.
“It was a risk, but I took it. And that is exactly what I am delivering. If you don’t take risks in life, it means you are not prepared to move forward,” she remarked.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo Akweley reaffirmed her stance on sanitation and urban development to implement change, ensuring that Greater Accra becomes a cleaner and more organized region.
