Sammy Gyamfi Dismisses NPP’s Claims on Mahama’s Ministerial and Presidential Staff Appointments

The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, has refuted claims by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that President John Dramani Mahama has reduced the number of ministers only to appoint more presidential staffers.

According to Gyamfi, the NPP has no moral right to make such allegations, especially considering the bloated government structure under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“We were in this country when former President Nana Akufo-Addo told us that he needed 125 ministers to run this country. Today, President Mahama is managing the nation with just 60 ministers. That is what we call good governance!”

Dismissing claims of excessive presidential staff appointments, Gyamfi challenged the NPP to point out any such appointments.

“Show me any new portfolio President Mahama has made into his office. The total number of presidential staffers appointed by Mahama is not even up to 20.”

Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi further accused Akufo-Addo’s administration of nepotism, claiming that family members and close associates were handed key government positions.

“Akufo-Addo gave his daughter a post, the mother of his children a post, his brothers a post, his uncle’s children a post, even his grandchildren got posts. Ei! They want me to take them back down memory lane? Let’s not forget ooo!”

The National Communications Officer highlighted the huge financial burden that came with Akufo-Addo’s 125 ministers and emphasized how much Mahama’s government is saving the country.

“John Mahama has appointed only 60 ministers. Do you know how much money he has saved this country? GH₵10 million per minister—and I have even reduced it!”

The National Communications Officer, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi broke down the cost implications of appointing a minister under the previous administration which includes land Cruiser purchase, two saloon cars per minister, drivers and salaries, household and office staff salaries, fuel, allowances, and other expenses

“President Mahama has scrapped all these wasteful expenditures. Do you know how much he has saved for this country? Because of this, children will have better school infrastructure and clean drinking water. Do you know the number of developmental projects this money can fund?”
