The Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), has highlighted the transformative impact of the ‘Black Star Experience’ on Ghana’s cultural and economic landscape.
Speaking at the media launch of Heritage Month 2025, he emphasized the initiative’s role in deepening ties between Ghana and the African diaspora while driving investment and tourism growth.
KOD described the ‘Black Star Experience’ as a movement that continues the legacy of Ghana’s Year of Return and Beyond the Return initiatives, which have reconnected thousands of African descendants with their roots.
“The ‘Black Star Experience’ is more than a visit—it’s a homecoming, a cultural awakening, and an economic opportunity,” he said. “Through this initiative, we are not only celebrating our heritage but also fostering partnerships that empower communities and create long-term development.”
According to KOD, the influx of diaspora visitors—including business leaders, creatives, and investors—has significantly boosted tourism revenue, real estate, and entrepreneurship in Ghana.
“The impact is visible in our hospitality industry, in the growing interest in property acquisition, and in the increasing number of diaspora-led businesses,” he noted. “These engagements are essential in positioning Ghana as the gateway to Africa for investment and cultural exchange.”
Heritage Month 2025, set to feature festivals, exhibitions, panel discussions, and cultural performances, aims to celebrate Ghana’s rich traditions while promoting a deeper understanding of African identity.
KOD encouraged Ghanaians to take pride in their culture and actively participate in events, emphasizing that the month is not just about reflecting on history but also about building a future where heritage fuels economic and social progress.
“As we celebrate Heritage Month, let’s remember that our culture is our strength. It is what unites us, what defines us, and what will propel us into the future,” he concluded.
The Director of Diaspora Affairs, Kofi Okyere Darko laid emphasis as Heritage Month 2025 promises to be a powerful platform for showcasing Ghana’s culture, business opportunities, and global influence, further strengthening the nation’s bond with the diaspora.
