We Shall Introduce Short Military Training for National Service Personnel – President John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to incorporate short military training into the National Service Scheme (NSS) to instill discipline and promote physical fitness among Ghanaian youth during the State of the Nation Address.

The initiative, according to the President, aims to equip young people with essential life skills, resilience, and a strong sense of patriotism.

Speaking on this new policy, President Mahama emphasized the importance of discipline in national development.

“We recognize the need to build a generation of disciplined, physically fit, and mentally strong young people who can contribute meaningfully to our nation’s progress. As part of the National Service Scheme, we will introduce a short military training program to achieve this objective,” he stated.

The proposed training is expected to include basic drills, leadership exercises, teamwork development, and physical fitness routines. While it will not be a full-scale military program, it is designed to expose participants to the principles of discipline, endurance, and civic responsibility.

The Ghana Armed Forces and the National Service Secretariat are expected to collaborate on the program’s implementation, ensuring that it aligns with the overall objectives of national service.

President Dramani Mahama emphasized that with Ghana facing various socio-economic challenges, the introduction of military-style training for NSS personnel is seen as a step toward fostering a more disciplined and responsible generation, ready to contribute effectively to nation-building.
