President John Dramani Mahama has taken a bold step to address the woes of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, by ordering his office and the Sports and Recreation Minister to keep a close eye on the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
“I’ve instructed my office and the Sports and Recreation Minister to hold the GFA accountable to the people of Ghana,” Mahama announced during the 2025 State of the Nation Address Thursday.
This move is aimed at ensuring that the GFA operates with transparency and accountability, putting the interests of Ghanaian football fans first.
“There will be no secrecy in how much the give spends on national teams.” The budgets presented by the FA and other sports bodies must be known to the public”. He said.
Mahama’s administration is committed to restoring the Black Stars to their former glory and promoting a culture of good governance in Ghana’s sports sector.
By holding the GFA accountable, Mahama’s government hopes to bring about a new era of success and pride for Ghanaian football.
