The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has strongly refuted claims that the late former president, Jerry John Rawlings, was a murderer.
Speaking on the matter, Asiedu Nketiah pointed out that the first coup d’état in Ghana was orchestrated by Major General Emmanuel Kotoka and Lt. General Akwasi Afrifa, both of whom had ties to the political traditions now associated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He emphasized that the historical record is clear about their backgrounds and their role in Ghana’s political upheavals.
He further questioned the decision to name Ghana’s main international airport after General Kotoka, arguing that it was inappropriate to honor someone linked to a coup that disrupted the nation’s democratic progress.
According to him, celebrating such figures undermines Ghana’s democratic principles and distorts historical narratives.
