Following the tragic death of Nana Pooley, a football fan who was killed in a recent stadium incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ghana Police Service have joined forces to strengthen security protocols at football stadiums.
In a significant development, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has established Sports Policing Coordination units in all 16 regions of Ghana, as confirmed by Henry Asante Twum, Director of Communications at the GFA.
” We received information from the IGP that he has appointed sports policing coordinators in all the 16 regions and this is as a-result of the meeting we had with the IGP last week.” He said in an interview.
These specialized units will be responsible for maintaining law and order, preventing hooliganism, and ensuring the safety and security of players, officials, and spectators at all Ghana Premier League matches.
The GFA and the police are committed to providing a secure and enjoyable environment for football fans, and this enhanced security measure is a crucial step in achieving that goal.
