Presidential Committee on Education Reform Promises Feasible Solutions to Bridge Sector Gaps

The Presidential Committee on Education Reform, tasked by President John Dramani Mahama to assess and propose improvements in Ghana’s educational sector, has assured the public of practical and implementable solutions to address identified challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, its Chairman, Professor George K.T. Oduro, emphasized that their work would be thorough, data-driven, and inclusive, ensuring that all critical gaps in the education system are effectively addressed.

He stressed that expert consultations would play a key role, particularly in evaluating and enhancing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.

“We are committed to providing feasible solutions that will not only bridge the gaps in our education system but also improve the quality of learning at all levels.

Our work will be guided by expert advice and stakeholder engagement to ensure sustainability,” Prof. Oduro stated.

The committee’s mandate includes reviewing key policies such as curriculum effectiveness, infrastructure development, teacher training, funding mechanisms, and the impact of Free SHS on educational outcomes.

Concerns have been raised in recent years about overcrowded classrooms, logistical challenges, and gaps in educational quality, prompting the need for urgent reforms.

Stakeholders, including educationists, civil society groups, parents, and students, have been invited to contribute their perspectives to shape the future of Ghana’s education system.

The committee has assured that their recommendations will be realistic, forward-thinking, and capable of driving long-term improvements.

As Ghana looks to strengthen its education sector, the outcomes of this reform process are expected to enhance accessibility, quality, and equity in education, ensuring that all students, regardless of background, receive the best possible learning opportunities.
