Ex-convict to spend 72 months in prison over theft

The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Fredrick Tetteh, has sentenced an ex-convict to 72 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a ram.

Evans Kwame Agbenu, who had previously served time in prison over a similar offence, pleaded guilty to the crime.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Birikorang Peasah, said the offence was committed on May 31, at about 1600 hours at Odumase in the Asante-Akim Central Municipality.

Razak Abdulai, the owner of the ram, was informed by a witness in the case about the theft of the animal and traced it to the house of the convict.

Agbenu had already slaughtered it and a formal report was subsequently made to the police.

He managed to slip through on seeing the police officers, leaving behind the carcass.

He was however arrested on June 07, and handed over to the police.
