Accra, Ghana – Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has emphasized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s commitment to addressing the failures of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Speaking during an interview on an Accra-based television station monitored by Ahotor FM’s Emmanuel Romeo Tetteh, Madam Mogtari expressed the urgency of recovering stolen state assets and ensuring accountability.
She highlighted that the incoming Attorney General would play a pivotal role in launching formal investigations to recover misappropriated resources and hold wrongdoers accountable.
“As soon as the Attorney General’s appointment is finalized, the person occupying that high office will immediately instruct the commencement of formal investigations,” she explained. “That is when individuals will be invited to answer pertinent questions, and, where necessary, prosecutions will be initiated at the discretion of the Attorney General.”
Madam Mogtari clarified the role of the Oral Preparatory Team, set up by President John Mahama, stating that its primary purpose is to collect information to support the Attorney General’s work rather than conduct investigations directly.
“These matters are of great importance to many Ghanaians. The Oral Preparatory Team is not investigating these issues but will gather critical information, making the Attorney General’s work more easier. This approach ensures that no time is wasted, allowing us to focus on delivering on what truly matters,” she noted.
She stressed the urgency of fulfilling the promises made by the NDC government, contrasting their intentions with the failures of the previous administration, which was voted out due to unmet expectations.
“We are committed to delivering on our promises in a timely manner. Ghanaians voted out the NPP because they failed to deliver, and we must ensure we do not repeat their mistakes,” She stated.
Madam Mogtari further emphasized President John Mahama’s vision of leaving a lasting legacy, rooted in his deep understanding of the country’s needs and priorities gained during his extensive campaign tours.
“President Mahama is on a legacy agenda to make a significant mark. He comes to the job with an enormous experience and a clear understanding of what matters most to the people of Ghana,” she added.
In a strong concluding statement, Joyce Bawah Mogtari reiterated the NDC’s commitment to accountability and integrity, warning that any failure to act decisively would not be forgiven by the Ghanaian people.
“Nobody will forgive us if we fail to investigate, recover stolen assets, and commit ourselves to avoiding the mistakes of the past administration,” she declared.
