NPP Members Voted Against Their Party in Protest – Global InfoAnalytics

The Head of Research at Global InfoAnalytics, Mussah K. Dankwah, has refuted claims by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) abstained from voting in the recently concluded election, which led to his defeat by John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr. Dankwah clarified that NPP members did not simply stay away from the polls but rather turned out in significant numbers to vote against their own party. According to him, many of these disgruntled party members shifted their allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate, John Mahama, as a form of protest.

He explained that the dissatisfaction stemmed from the ruling party’s failure to address the concerns of its grassroots supporters. “Even their Members of Parliament (MPs) failed to resolve pressing issues affecting the people. Ghanaians are not fools to be taken for granted,” he emphasized.

Citing the Eastern Region as an example, Mr. Dankwah revealed that about 20% of NPP members who participated in the election chose to vote for the NDC instead. This shift, he argued, underscores the growing frustration among the party’s base.

Mr. Dankwah also warned the incoming government, led by John Dramani Mahama, to take immediate and decisive steps to meet the expectations of the populace. “If the new administration fails to deliver, they too will face the wrath of voters in future elections,” he cautioned.

The findings by Global InfoAnalytics highlight a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape, where voter loyalty is increasingly tied to performance and accountability rather than party affiliation.
