Eleven people, including two children, died in an accident that occurred at Dikpa near Tinga on the Bole-Bamboi highway, in the Bole District in the Northern Region Sunday dawn when a Ssanyong mini bus travelling from Kumasi to Wa, the Upper West Regional capital, ran into a stationary DAF truck parked on the road.
Eight people who are in critical condition are receiving treatment at the hospital.
The deceased and the injured were on board a Ssanyong mini-bus (with registration number UW 171-15) that was travelling from Kumasi to Wa and ran into a stationary DAF truck (with registration number AS 379N) that was parked on the road.
According to the police, the deceased whose bodies have been deposited at the Bole Government Hospital morgue are yet to be identified.
Police
The Bole District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr David Azumah, who confirmed the accident to the Daily Graphic, said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Bole Government Hospital.
He stated that the driver of the mini-bus that ran into the stationary truck “is in critical condition and has been transferred to the Upper West Regional Hospital in Wa.”
ASP Azumah said the driver of the DAF truck told the police that his truck had developed a fault and was parked unattended on the road.
He said the accident occurred at 2.30 a.m. on Sunday dawn and that the mini-bus and the DAF truck were both facing the same direction.
ASP Azumah said investigations were under way to identify the deceased persons.
