Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy has addressed recent criticism following a viral clip where some viewers felt his on-stage walk appeared “feminine.”
In a post on his Instagram story, he responded to the backlash on Christmas Eve, stating, “When they talk, nobody cares, but when I react, it’s a nuclear disaster.
You all should consider yourselves lucky that I have too much to lose now; otherwise, many of you would not be here anymore. Anyway, let me just go buy something and relax.”
His comments sparked a mixed reaction online, with some fans rallying to his defense, expressing sorrow over the relentless trolling he endures.
One supporter noted, “It’s heartbreaking how people constantly bash Burna Boy with hurtful remarks as if it’s a joke. But when he responds, he’s cast as the villain. We must remember he’s human with feelings. Let’s do better as fans and as a society by uplifting rather than tearing down our own.”
Meanwhile, others questioned his statement, with one person asking, “How would a lot of us not be here anymore? Are you threatening us?” and another adding, “You’re a celebrity, not a god.” Criticism surfaced as well, with one commenter stating, “I thought this guy was a champion for musical freedom—turns out he’s more interested in his own gains.”
