President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has re-nominated 15 Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) for approval by their respective assemblies.
They are George Kyei Baffour, Asante Akim Central; Abraham Mbanye, Sene East District; Felicia Aba Hagan, Abura/Asebu /Kwamankese District; Florence Governor, Ayensuano District, and Ebenezer Tettey Kupaulor, Yilo Krobo Municipal.
A statement signed by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, advised the respective regional offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct the confirmation processes of the nominated chief executives.
Background
Some nominees for the position of chief executives in the municipal and district assemblies were rejected by their respective assemblies
One of the biggest shocks was local government expert, Mr Kyei Baffour, who failed to secure the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly seat.
In the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo election, for instance, Mr Alhassan polled 17 out of 32 votes cast, which fell short of the requirement for a second round voting.
In Biakoye, Madam Kabuki Carboo was also rejected when she polled 18 votes while 25 assembly members voted against her nomination.
Madam Ella Boateng for South Dayi also lost the confirmation polls when 11 assembly members voted for her confirmation with 18 voting against her.
The renominated candidate for the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District, Ms Hagan, equally lost her earlier bid when she had 17 votes with 53 voting against.
