Deputy Director of Elections and I.T for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Jibril, has responded strongly to a recent press conference held by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.
During the press briefing, Jean Mensa highlighted nine constituencies that reportedly require a re-collation of election results.
Reacting to this, Mahdi Jibril accused Jean Mensa of working in favour of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, the press conference forms part of a calculated plan by the EC Chairperson and the NPP to provoke the NDC into actions that could destabilize the country.
He went on to describe Jean Mensa’s actions as those of a “devil-minded” individual, suggesting that her conduct is a deliberate attempt to pave the way for her eventual exit from the Electoral Commission while fulfilling promises allegedly made to the NPP regarding the elections.
Mahdi claimed that her inability to fully execute those promises during the elections has now prompted her to create a narrative that benefits the ruling party.
“These actions clearly show that Jean Mensa is not acting in the interest of the nation but rather to satisfy a political agenda. It’s unfortunate that our electoral processes are being undermined by such partisan behaviour,” Mahdi Jibril stated.
His remarks highlight the growing tension between the NDC and the Electoral Commission, especially as both parties gear up for the 2024 general elections.
