The Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA) has set a new price of GHS 15 per kilogram for cashew nuts for the 2025 crop season. This announcement was made by the Authority’s CEO, William Quaittoo, who explained that the revised price is designed to compensate farmers for the operational costs they incur during the production process.
The announcement comes as a response to mounting calls from cashew farmers in the Bono Region. These farmers had appealed directly to the president, urging the government to ensure the TCDA announced a fair price for cashew nuts before the upcoming elections. Their plea highlighted the economic importance of the cashew sector to their livelihoods and the need for timely intervention to guide their planning and operations.
In addressing the concerns of the farmers, Mr. Quaittoo emphasized the Authority’s commitment to fostering a sustainable and profitable cashew industry. He noted that the new rate reflects the rising cost of production and the government’s intention to ensure that farmers receive fair value for their hard work.
This move is expected to bring some relief to cashew farmers, who have long advocated for better pricing mechanisms to support their industry. The announcement is also seen as a strategic step to strengthen the government’s relationship with farmers in a politically significant region ahead of the elections.
