Ghanaian actor and passionate supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Prince David Osei, has responded to the early projections in the 2024 presidential election by graciously acknowledging the results and reflecting on the campaign journey.
Following indications that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was taking an early lead, Osei shared a heartfelt statement on social media where he candidly conceded defeat. He congratulated the NDC on their performance and expressed pride in the efforts of his team.
“What a fascinating phenomenon we’ve just witnessed! Ghana has spoken, and the outcomes are not what we expected. I’m incredibly proud of myself, my team, and all we accomplished; we fought with vigor,” Osei stated.
As a strong advocate for the NPP and its candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, he reiterated his belief in the party’s policies while acknowledging the cyclical nature of Ghanaian politics. “The Almighty always has a plan, and Ghana often seeks a change every eight years,” he remarked, maintaining a sense of optimism about the NPP’s future.
He expressed gratitude to his supporters for their unwavering loyalty and encouraged them to remain hopeful, promising that the party would “rise stronger and more resilient in the next four years.”
This sincere message comes as the NDC projects a substantial lead for its candidate, John Dramani Mahama. Early results show Mahama ahead with 56.45% of the votes counted from 37,200 polling stations, while Dr. Bawumia follows with 41.19%.
Osei’s backing of the NPP throughout the campaign had garnered significant attention, particularly as he promoted what he referred to as Dr. Bawumia’s “bold, solution-oriented policies.” Despite the disappointing outcome, Osei’s gracious concession has been met with widespread appreciation, seen as a call for unity and resilience within Ghana’s democratic landscape.
As the nation awaits the official results, Osei concluded his statement on a hopeful note, inviting friendly discussions and exchanges as a means to foster political camaraderie. “We don’t give up,” he affirmed. “Kukrudu!”
With Ghana at this critical juncture, all eyes are on the Electoral Commission as the country anticipates the official results.
