The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has expressed her satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the ongoing general elections, assuring Ghanaians that the process is progressing seamlessly across the country.
Speaking from the EC’s headquarters in Accra, Jean Mensa provided an update on the state of the polls, emphasising the commission’s commitment to ensuring a credible and transparent election.
“Reports reaching us indicate that the elections are proceeding well across the length and breadth of the country,” she stated. “We are confident that the good Lord who has started this process will bring it to a good and expected end.”
One of the significant highlights of this year’s elections is the unprecedented access granted to the media at all collation centres, including the national collation centre.
Jean Mensa lauded this decision as a landmark move towards fostering transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
“In all elections since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992, the media has been granted access only when the declaration is being made at the national collation centre, but this is the first time the media is having access to all our collation centres across the country.
“This is a testament to the values of transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, integrity, and responsiveness that we hold dear.”
The decision to allow media access to all collation centres has been widely welcomed by journalists and civil society organisations, who view it as a bold step in reinforcing public confidence in the electoral process.
