John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians to reject the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.
According to John Mahama, the Akufo-Addo–Bawumia administration’s mismanagement has plunged the nation into severe hardships, and the December 7 polls provide an opportunity for a much-needed change.
Criticizing the Current Leadership
Addressing a crowd at Manso Adubia during his Ashanti Regional tour, Mr. Mahama urged voters to reflect on their living conditions under the current government.
He accused the NPP of failing to address the economic challenges facing the country.
“Ghanaians must consider their living conditions and vote wisely. Let’s reject Akufo-Addo and his people. It’s time for them to go, and they should take Bawumia with them. Ghanaians are fed up, and on Saturday, they will show the NPP the door,” he stated to resounding applause.
Time for Change
John Mahama emphasized that the December elections represent a critical moment to reset the country’s trajectory. He used the NPP’s symbol, the elephant, as a metaphor, calling for its removal.
“This is the time to send the elephant back to the bush so we can reset our country and build a better future for all,” he declared passionately.
Addressing Misinformation
John Mahama dismissed claims by the NPP that he intends to cancel the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy if elected.
He described the allegation as baseless propaganda meant to distract voters from the NPP’s failures.
“The NPP’s campaign has fallen flat. Their only message is to spread lies that I will cancel Free SHS. That is not true. The NDC will not only protect Free SHS but will make it better. We will improve quality and ensure every child benefits fully from this policy,” he clarified.
Promises for Small-Scale Mining Communities
John Mahama also addressed the concerns of small-scale miners, particularly in the Manso Adubia area, where mining is a primary source of livelihood.
He acknowledged the importance of small-scale mining and pledged to enhance the sector while ensuring environmental protection.
“I understand the challenges of small-scale miners. Mining is not illegal, but we must do it responsibly to protect our lands and water bodies. My administration will provide the necessary support to miners to ensure sustainable practices,” he promised.
Collaboration with Tarkwa University of Mines and Energy
To further support the mining sector, John Mahama announced plans to partner with the Tarkwa University of Mines and Energy.
The institution, he explained, would provide technical assistance to miners, helping them adopt environmentally friendly methods.
“The Tarkwa University will train miners in modern techniques that eliminate the use of harmful chemicals like mercury. This partnership will help miners extract resources without damaging our environment,” Mr. Mahama explained.
Land Reclamation and Environmental Restoration
John Mahama outlined a plan to introduce “Reclamation Volunteers,” a dedicated team that will work to restore degraded lands. The initiative will involve planting trees on reclaimed land to ensure environmental sustainability.
“We will create Reclamation Volunteers to plant trees and restore our damaged lands. This is how we will strike a balance between development and environmental preservation,” he said.
A Vision for a Better Ghana
In his closing remarks, John Mahama assured Ghanaians that an NDC government would prioritize economic recovery, education, job creation, and environmental sustainability.
He called on voters to embrace the change he represents.
“The NPP has had their chance and failed. Now is the time for fresh leadership, new ideas, and real solutions. Let’s take this opportunity to create the Ghana we all deserve,” he concluded.
The Manso Adubia crowd responded with cheers, signaling strong support for John Mahama’s message as he continues his campaign across the region.
