Mahama Criticizes Bawumia Over Ghana Card E-Gate Incident, Calls for Change in December 7 Elections

John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken aim at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over a widely circulated video showing a failed attempt to open an electronic gate at Kotoka International Airport using a Ghana Card.

Speaking to a large crowd at Esaase Bontefufuo during his Ashanti Regional tour, Mr. Mahama described the incident as symbolic of the NPP’s shortcomings, particularly in the area of digitalization.

He argued that the event highlights why Ghanaians should reconsider entrusting the NPP with another term in office.

“You can do all the propaganda you want about digitalization, but if the fundamentals are weak, the digital systems will expose you,” Mr. Mahama remarked, drawing laughter and cheers from the audience.

He went on to criticize Dr. Bawumia, who has positioned himself as the champion of Ghana’s digital transformation, accusing him of neglecting the economy in favor of a digital agenda that lacks substance.

“The man brought in to fix the economy has abandoned it and now calls himself the ‘Digital Man.’ Yet, even a digital gate refused to recognize him. If the Digital Man can’t open a digital gate, how can he fix the economy?” John Mahama quipped, reinforcing his critique.

Call for Change

John Mahama emphasized that the upcoming December 7 elections represent a critical moment for Ghana to embrace change.

He urged voters to reject the NPP, claiming the ruling party has run out of ideas and failed to deliver on its promises.

“Change is calling, and Ghana desperately needs that change. We cannot continue to endure the hardships imposed by this NPP government,” he declared.

Addressing Neglected Infrastructure

During his speech, John Mahama also highlighted the poor state of infrastructure under the NPP, using the deplorable condition of the Manso Nkwanta road as an example.

He criticized the government for neglecting key development projects in the area over the past eight years.

“Traveling on the Manso Nkwanta road makes you wonder why anyone would still vote for the NPP. I promise that an NDC government will fix the dusty, neglected roads and bring relief to the people,” he assured the crowd.

A Vision for a Better Future

John Mahama concluded his address by reiterating the NDC’s commitment to addressing the pressing needs of Ghanaians.

He promised a government that prioritizes economic recovery, infrastructure development, and social justice.

“The NPP has nothing left to offer. It’s time for fresh ideas, effective leadership, and a government that truly serves the people. The NDC is ready to deliver that change,” he said.

With his message resonating strongly with the crowd, John Mahama left Esaase Bontefufuo with renewed energy for the final leg of his campaign, determined to lead Ghana into a new era of progress and accountability.
