Ghana Premier League heavyweights Kumasi Asante Kotoko have announced the appointment of the club legend Malik Jabir as the new Technical Director.
The position has been dormant for a very long time and as part of restructuring, the life Patron, Otumfou Osei Tutu II through consultation with the Interim Management Committee (IMC), has named the two-time CAF Champions League winner as the new technical director for the club.
He brings his expertise and expertise to compliment coach Prosper Narteh Ogum who has come under criticism for the recent past weeks and also relieved current Sudan Coach Akwasi Appiah who doubles as a member of the IMC of his duties to fully focus on his IMC roles.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of club legend and two-time CAF Champions League winner, Malik Jabir as the new technical director for the club.
Coach James Kwasi Appiah who recently held the position will remain as a member of the club’s management team”-club statement.
Malik scored the winning goal for Kotoko when it won the Africa Cup for the first time in 1970 in the final match against Englebert away in Kinshasa.
As a coach, he guided Kotoko’s 5-1 demolition of the reigning champions, Zamalek, in a semi-final club championship in Kumasi in 1987.
He was the assistant to Coach Ibrahim Sunday when Kotoko won the Africa Cup for the second time in 1983 in the final against Al-Ahly of Egypt in Kumasi.
Malik again led Kotoko to the final of the continent’s most prestigious competition in 1993 which Zamalek won on penalties in Egypt.
