Tyla Stands Out at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards with Top Afrobeats Song Nominations Tyla is making waves as she leads the nominations for the Top Afrobeats Song category at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards with three entries.
The talented artist has achieved another significant milestone, receiving three nominations in various categories, including Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, and Top Afrobeats Artist, ahead of the awards ceremony.
Her acclaimed singles from her debut studio album, ‘Tyla,’ released on March 22, 2024, are recognized in the Top Afrobeats Song category. The nominated tracks are ‘Water,’ ‘Truth or Dare,’ and ‘Jump.’
Tems is also nominated for her song, ‘Me & U,’ while Adam Port & Stryv featuring Malachiii are in the running with their track, ‘Move.’ This recognition comes after Tyla recently won the Best Afrobeats category at the 2024 VMAs on September 11, 2024, for her hit single, ‘Water.’
Other nominees in the Top Afrobeats Song category include Ayra Starr with ‘Last Heartbreak Song,’ Chris Brown featuring Lojay and Davido with ‘Sensational,’ Usher featuring Pheelz with ‘Ruin,’ and Tems with ‘Love Me Jeje.’
During her acceptance speech at the VMAs, Tyla highlighted the global reach of ‘Water,’ stating, “The impact that ‘Water’ has had on the world proves that African music can be pop music too.”
She also emphasized the importance of recognizing the diversity within African music: “While Afrobeats has opened many doors for us, it’s important to remember that African music is much broader than just Afrobeats.”
