John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has firmly rejected claims that the 2024 elections will be held on different dates.
He clarified that both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections will take place on the same day, December 7th, as stipulated, and not on separate days as some radio presenters have suggested.
This comes in the wake of a controversy involving Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, who has been invited by the Ghana Police Service to assist in an ongoing investigation.
The investigation pertains to the dissemination of false information regarding the election schedule.
A video circulating on social media has drawn the attention of law enforcement, showing Oheneba Nana Asiedu in the studios of Wontumi FM, where he is seen making misleading statements.
In the footage, he allegedly suggests that voters should cast their ballots for the presidential candidates on different days during the upcoming general elections.
This misinformation has sparked concern among the public and authorities, as it is seen as an attempt to create confusion and disrupt the electoral process.
The Ghana Police Service has called on Nana Asiedu to report to the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi to assist with the investigation into the false claims.
The police emphasize the importance of accurate information in the lead-up to the elections, particularly regarding the voting schedule.
While speaking at a rally in Daboase during his Western Regional tour, John Mahama responded to the controversy, urging Ghanaians to disregard the false claims.
He reassured the public that the election will be held on December 7th, as previously announced, and urged them to remain vigilant against attempts to spread misinformation.
John Mahama also expressed confidence in the NDC’s prospects for the December 7th elections, emphasizing that the party is well-prepared and poised for victory.
He encouraged supporters to stay focused on the real issues and ensure their participation in the upcoming polls.
