Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Jibril, has dismissed recent accusations by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Organizer, Nana Boakye (Nana B), as a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the real issues facing the country.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen Kofi, Mr. Jibril dismissed the accusations as baseless, emphasizing that the NDC is focused on securing a legitimate victory in the 2024 elections. He assured Ghanaians that the party is committed to fair democratic principles.
“The NDC is poised to win the elections come 2024. When we take office in 2025, we will not engage in the kind of unproductive and baseless actions the NPP leadership is currently demonstrating,” he stated.
Criticizing the NPP’s approach, Mr. Jibril questioned the rationale behind holding a press conference instead of taking concrete action if they genuinely believed someone was plotting to destabilize the country.
“If you are in government and claim to have evidence of a plot against the country, why not act decisively? Instead, you hold a press conference to say you ‘believe’ something is happening. This shows a lack of leadership and seriousness,” he remarked.
He also took a swipe at the NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, describing his recent press conference as ill-conceived and unnecessary.
“What Nana B did yesterday only reflects poor judgment. It was one of the most useless press conferences ever held by a party in government,” Mr. Jibril asserted.
The NDC Deputy Director of Elections concluded by urging Ghanaians to stay focused on the issues that truly matter and to reject what he described as distractions from the NPP.
Mr. Jibril described Nana B’s allegations as baseless and unworthy of attention. He dismissed the claims, stating, “It takes someone who believes in absurdities, like those fueled by propaganda or desperation, to suggest that the NDC would use ambulances to smuggle guns. Such an idea is laughable and an insult to the intelligence of Ghanaians.”
Mr. Jibril did not mince words about Nana B’s conduct as a leader, branding him as an ineffective National Organizer. “Nana B has proven to be one of the most incompetent National Organizers the NPP has ever had. His press conference yesterday only highlighted his lack of focus and seriousness,” he stated.
He urged the NPP to refrain from making baseless accusations and instead focus on addressing the pressing issues facing the country. “These kinds of distractions won’t solve the economic hardships or the growing concerns of Ghanaians. The NDC remains committed to presenting solutions, not engaging in unnecessary propaganda,” Mr. Jibril concluded.
According to Mr. Jibril, the NPP’s claims that the NDC is plotting to destabilize the country are baseless and reactionary. He questioned why the NPP failed to raise these allegations earlier if they genuinely believed there was a threat. “If these accusations were credible, why didn’t they report them months ago? It’s only because the NDC exposed their plans that they are now scrambling to cover up,” he stated.
He went on to describe the press conference by Nana B as one of the most pointless actions ever undertaken by the ruling party. “This is perhaps the most useless thing the NPP has ever done. It’s a distraction, plain and simple,” Mr. Jibril said.
The NDC official didn’t hold back on his criticism of the NPP leadership, attributing Nana B’s remarks to what he called a pattern of poor judgment within the party. “I don’t entirely blame Nana B. Look at the party leadership. Even President Akufo-Addo has misled the nation on several occasions. If the president can make misleading statements, how much more an Organizer like Nana B? It’s no surprise he’s making such foolish claims.”
He also criticized the logic behind Nana B’s statements, calling them inconsistent with responsible governance. “For a government in power to claim there’s a looming security threat but do nothing about it for months is simply absurd. You sit quietly for seven months, then wait until someone else raises concerns before coming out to say you knew all along? Anyone who listened to Nana B yesterday would conclude that he is not thinking clearly,” Mr. Jibril remarked.
He concluded by calling on Ghanaians to reject such distractions and focus on the pressing issues affecting their lives. “The NPP’s actions show a lack of seriousness. Ghanaians deserve better than a government and leaders who prioritize propaganda over addressing the real challenges facing the nation,” he said.
