Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to vote wisely in the upcoming 2024 elections, stressing that “elections have consequences.”
According to Mr. Mahama, choosing the right leadership is crucial, as it can either bring prosperity or hardship.
Speaking at a mini-rally in Akontombra, Western North Region, as part of his #Mahama4Change2024 campaign tour, John Mahama emphasized that living conditions under the NDC were notably better than those seen under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
He pointed to rising costs of everyday items as evidence, citing that kenkey—a staple food in Ghana—used to cost 1 GH₵ under his leadership but now sells for 5 GH₵.
He also highlighted the price of petrol, which was 14 GH₵ per gallon under his government but has since risen to between 70-75 GH₵.
Mr. Mahama remarked that while in opposition, the NPP labeled him “incompetent” and “wicked” for prices far lower than what they now preside over.
“They’ve come to see that governance is not just talk,” Mr. Mahama asserted, calling the NPP’s performance a failure and urging Ghanaians to use their vote to bring about change.
Quoting former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kuffour, John Mahama reminded voters to make their decisions based on their current living conditions.(Hw3 w’asitina mu n’ato aba pa).
He believes many Ghanaians are ready for a shift, seeing the 2024 election as an opportunity to improve their circumstances and move past the hardships he attributes to the NPP’s leadership.
