Parliament has approved Justice Sophia Akuffo as the new Chief Justice.
Justice Akuffo’s approval followed a recommendation by the Appointments Committee of Parliament after she was vetted last Friday.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament Monday, the First Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joe Osei-Wusu said Justice Akuffo demonstrated a high standard of “competence, integrity, forthrightness and independence, astuteness in depth appreciation of the law, shrewdness and selflessness” during her vetting.
The Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu also declared their acceptance of Justice Akuffo saying “we strongly support the president’s nominee and that she is competent to work in that office.”
Justice Akuffo’s approval makes her the second female Chief Justice of Ghana.
