National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama has strongly criticized the current government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP), stating that it has imposed severe hardships on Ghanaians.
John Mahama emphasized that many citizens affected by the DDEP are now suffering in silence, while the government appears indifferent to their struggles.
Speaking to a crowd in Kasoa, Awutu Senya East Constituency, as part of his Central Regional tour, Mr. Mahama referenced the recent passing of Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, CEO of Kama Group, who had openly criticized the DDEP.
He pointed to this as evidence of the program’s detrimental impact, claiming, “Government bonds are supposed to be the safest investments in the world, but not in Ghana under the NPP. Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo’s death underscores the silent suffering many are enduring because of the Domestic Debt Exchange Program.”
John Mahama also took the opportunity to share his vision for Kasoa, promising that, if elected, he would revive development projects he had initiated in 2016.
He highlighted the progress Kasoa had made under his previous administration, transforming from a small town to a more developed urban center.
“Kasoa was just a small town, but we started raising its standards, building the foundation for growth. The NPP came in with empty promises but has failed to further develop the area. I’m confident the NDC will win this December, and when we do, we’ll continue Kasoa’s growth from where we left off,” he assured the crowd.
With these promises, Mahama emphasized his commitment to relieving economic pressures and driving meaningful development across Ghana.
