NDC Insight Calls for Transparency and Peaceful Conduct in Ghana’s Electoral Process

Accra, Ghana – NDC Insight urges the Electoral Commission of Ghana to prioritize transparency in the electoral process, emphasizing that this is the only way Ghanaians can peacefully exercise their civil rights. As we approach the crucial elections on December 7, 2024, it is imperative that we learn from recent electoral practices observed in the United States, where the electoral process was lauded for its integrity, devoid of voter fraud and violence, and where police presence at polling stations ensured security without instilling fear.

The recent U.S. elections demonstrated a commitment to democracy, with a smooth transition of power marked by respect for the electoral outcome. Notably, members of the Democratic Party swiftly accepted the results, congratulated their opponent, and pledged to assist in the transition process. This spirit of cooperation is a hallmark of true democratic governance, and it is one that we must emulate here in Ghana.

NDC Insight calls on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to adopt this commendable approach. We urge them to put the interests of Ghana above personal ambitions, fostering an environment where all Ghanaians can safely exercise their right to vote without fear of intimidation or violence.

Furthermore, we express our deep concern regarding the potential deployment of military personnel at polling stations, which could create an atmosphere of stress and anxiety for voters. The safety and peace of our electoral process must take precedence over any perceived need for security measures that may cause distress among the populace. We stand firmly against any actions that could lead to the loss of life or injury during this critical democratic exercise.

Free and fair elections are the bedrock of our democracy and essential for the smooth transfer of power. It is vital that we ensure this process is conducted with the utmost integrity, allowing every Ghanaian to feel secure and empowered in expressing their choice. We do not wish to see anyone harmed in their pursuit of civil rights; rather, we envision a Ghana where every citizen can participate in the democratic process in peace.

As we look ahead to the upcoming elections, let us draw inspiration from the recent electoral practices in the United States. It is our hope that Ghana can mirror these democratic values and uphold the principles that allow for a thriving, peaceful nation.

NDC Insight remains committed to advocating for a transparent electoral process and urges all stakeholders to work collaboratively towards achieving a peaceful and fair election in December 2024.
