The Krachiwura, Nana Mprah Besemuna, praised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its proposed Women’s Bank initiative, describing it as a “game changer” that would greatly benefit his community.
He expressed these sentiments during a courtesy visit from former President John Dramani Mahama, who stopped by on November 5th as part of his Oti Regional tour.
According to Nana Mprah Besemuna, the Krachi area is largely a trading hub where women play a central role in market activities.
He emphasized that a Women’s Bank would empower these women financially, providing them with access to credit, resources, and support that could alleviate their financial burdens and expand their businesses.
“Our women are the backbone of our markets,” Nana Mprah noted. “This bank would be a lifeline, creating growth and independence for them.”
Beyond financial empowerment, the Krachiwura also advocated for educational opportunities that could foster local development.
He made a heartfelt appeal to Mr. Mahama to establish a Technical University in Kete-Krachi, emphasizing the institution’s potential to provide quality technical education and vocational training for the youth in the region.
Such an institution, he argued, would not only address the high levels of youth unemployment but also create a skilled workforce to drive economic growth.
“The youth need practical skills, and a Technical University would equip them with the knowledge to build a prosperous future for themselves and the community,” Nana Mprah stated.
He added that attracting students to the area could stimulate the local economy, bringing additional benefits to residents and businesses alike.
In addition, the Krachiwura raised concerns about the region’s infrastructure needs.
He appealed to John Mahama to prioritize the area’s roads, some of which had seen neglect and disrepair.
Nana Mprah highlighted that during Mahama’s previous term in office, there had been specific plans to address the road conditions.
However, those plans had not been realized under the current government, leaving residents with difficult and unsafe travel conditions.
The Krachiwura also urged Mahama to consider upgrading the local health center, explaining that the community urgently needs improved medical facilities and resources.
“Our people deserve better healthcare facilities to serve them in times of need,” he said.
Among his most significant requests, however, was a longstanding community aspiration: the construction of a bridge over the Oti River. Nana Mprah described the bridge as “a dream for the people,” explaining that it would improve transportation for the community and surrounding areas, enhancing trade and accessibility for the entire country.
He noted, “This bridge will not only connect our region but will serve as a vital link for commerce and ease of movement.”
In response to these requests, John Dramani Mahama expressed his appreciation for the Krachiwura’s vision and commitment to his people.
He acknowledged the importance of the Women’s Bank proposal, noting its potential to provide economic relief and empowerment for women traders.
John Mahama also assured the Krachiwura that if elected, the NDC would give careful consideration to establishing a Technical University in Kete-Krachi, recognizing the critical role of technical education in creating sustainable employment opportunities for Ghana’s youth.
Addressing the bridge request, John Mahama pledged that an NDC government would prioritize the construction of the Oti River bridge, affirming that it was a key component of their infrastructure plans for the region. “We recognize the vital role this bridge would play in connecting communities and fostering development,” he said.
In conclusion, Mahama reiterated the NDC’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, expanding educational opportunities, and improving healthcare across Ghana.
He assured Nana Mprah Besemuna and the people of Krachi that their aspirations were aligned with the NDC’s vision for a stronger and more inclusive Ghana.
