John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to complete the long-awaited Oti Regional Hospital if elected into office.
Speaking to a gathering in Dambai, located in the Krachi East constituency, Mr. Mahama expressed deep concern over the abandoned state of the hospital project, which he originally initiated during his previous term in office.
According to Mr. Mahama, the plan for a regional hospital in Oti was set in motion before he left office, with the intention of providing residents with essential healthcare services.
However, he lamented that under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), no progress has been made on the project over the past eight years.
“The NPP has not fulfilled the promise of building this crucial facility for the people of Oti. Instead, the land earmarked for the hospital now lies neglected, overrun by animals,” he remarked.
He sharply criticized the NPP for its inaction, suggesting that the governing party neglected the project because it did not win the Krachi East seat in previous elections.
“They abandoned the hospital project simply because they didn’t win here,” he stated, adding that the NDC remains committed to delivering quality healthcare to all, regardless of political loyalties.
“When the NDC returns to power, we will ensure that the Oti Regional Hospital is built and fully operational, providing the healthcare services the people deserve.”
In addition to the hospital, Mr. Mahama announced ambitious plans to boost educational infrastructure in the region.
He promised to establish a new university in Oti to expand access to higher education and develop local talent.
“Education is key to our progress, and we are committed to making it accessible to every Ghanaian,” he emphasized, noting that a university would not only enhance educational opportunities but also stimulate economic growth in the area.
Mr. Mahama also addressed other pressing needs in Oti, including pledges to construct a modern sports stadium and a regional police headquarters to bolster safety and encourage youth development through sports.
Furthermore, he outlined plans to improve the region’s water supply and road networks, critical components of the NDC’s vision for regional development.
As he concluded, Mr. Mahama called on residents to support the NDC, assuring them that the party has the experience and capable team to drive meaningful progress.
“The NDC has the men and women to bring about real change and development. Together, we can turn things around for the benefit of every Ghanaian,” he affirmed.
