GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE: RECAP OF MATCH WEEK 9

Match week 9 of the Ghana premier produced exciting moments. While Asante Kotoko succumbed to a defeat, rivals Accra Hearts of Oak recorded a win. Elsewhere, Bibiani Gold Stars were held by Dreams FC. Below is a recap of proceedings.



On Friday, Medeama SC were stunned by Accra Hearts of Oak at the Tarkwa TNA Sports Stadium. Kwabena Boateng and Mawuli Wayo scored both goals as the Phobians run riot over the home side. Medeama SC failed to capitalize on their control over the game with superb finishing, Diawisie Taylor was the biggest culprit.

Accra Lions were held by Samartex 1996 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Defensive Stalwart Kofi Agbesimah marshalled the backline of the defending champions as Samartex snatched a point.

On Sunday, Asante Kotoko suffered a set back in their quest to return to winning ways. Having succumbed to a 2-1 loss to former coach Paa Kwesi Fabian during mid-week the porcupine warriors fell again to another former coach in Bashir Hayford. Kwadwo Obeng Jnr’s 24th goal separated the two sides after 90 minutes.

At Bibiani, Solomon Tetter was sent off but Deams FC battled it out for goalless draw against inform Bibiani Gold Stars. Coach Karim Zito pulled the strings tactically to ensure Dreams FC left Bibiani with a point.


At the Golden City park, Berekum Chelsea FC took on Basake Holy Stars. Stephen Amankona’s late equalizer kept the score 2-2 after 90 minutes.


Nations FC’s impressive form saw them pick an all important win over Karela United. Goal monger, Faisal Charwetey’s 70th minute strike separated both teams after full time.



At Nsoatre, Bechem United battled it out fiercely for the 3 maximum points but indefagitable attitude of the home side saw them equalize a 2-1 lead. It ended 2-2 after 90 minutes.



After match week 9, Bibiani Gold Stars are on top of the league table with 19 points. In 2nd place is Nations FC with 16 points meanwhile Legon Cities with a game in hand are languising at the buttom with 5 points. Legon Cities are up against Young Apostles today.
