The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to establish a two-day public holiday for Muslims following their Ramadan celebration if elected.
Mr. Mahama believes that this additional holiday will provide much-needed rest for Muslims after the fasting period, recognizing the importance of Eid-ul-Fitr as both a spiritual and family occasion.
Explaining his vision, Mr. Mahama stated that, under his administration, Muslims would be guaranteed a two-day break after Ramadan.
This approach would allow the community to choose which day to pray and still have a full day of rest afterward.
“We will ensure that there are two days of holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. This way, whether you pray on the first day or the second day, you will have the time to celebrate and rest,” he shared.
While addressing a mini-rally at Gbalahi in the Tamale North constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Northern Region, Mr. Mahama expanded on his plans to support Muslim communities.
He committed to constructing more Islamic secondary schools in areas with predominantly Muslim populations, aiming to increase access to quality secondary education for young people in these communities.
“The NDC is committed to building more Islamic secondary schools so that our children in Muslim communities can have equal access to secondary education,” he declared.
Mr. Mahama also emphasized that the NDC has a broad agenda for advancing the interests of the Muslim community and promoting national development as a whole.
He urged voters to support the NDC, highlighting that his party’s plans would benefit not just Muslim communities but all citizens across Ghana.
