Abraham Koomson, Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain vigilant in the upcoming December elections, warning that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) may resort to aggressive tactics to retain power.
According to Mr. Koomson, while the NPP may struggle to win a straightforward election, they might employ “suspicious methods” to secure a victory, and the NDC must be prepared to respond effectively.
Abraham Koomson advised the NDC not to rely solely on traditional voting and counting processes, cautioning that a normal approach may not be sufficient.
“The NPP appears determined to use every means at their disposal to stay in power. The NDC should not assume that they can win simply by following standard procedures,” he stated.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show with host Nana Dogbe, Mr. Koomson pointed to past rhetoric from the NPP, such as the “All die be die” mantra, as an indication that they might not shy away from using force if necessary.
He called on the NDC to prepare countermeasures for what he called the “one million strategies” the NPP might deploy.
He also advised the NDC to avoid relying on post-election court battles, suggesting that the judiciary could be biased due to political affiliations.
“The NDC needs strong counterstrategies, but taking the case to court should not be one of them. The courts, as they stand, may not serve the interests of justice fairly,” he cautioned.
