A total of 92 people lost their lives in 273 road accidents recorded in the Western North Region in 2025, according to a report by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA).

The report further revealed that 71 of the victims were males, highlighting a worrying trend of fatalities among men in road crashes within the region.

Speaking to the media during a sensitization and law enforcement exercise, the Acting Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority, Oheneba Kwame Acheampong, described the statistics as alarming and deeply troubling.

The exercise targeted Okada and Pragya riders, drivers, and roadside traders, aiming to ensure that they comply with road safety rules and regulations across the region.

According to Mr. Acheampong, the frequent loss of lives especially breadwinners of families on the roads remains a major concern, which is why the authority has intensified public education and enforcement activities to reduce accidents.

Mr. Acheampong also outlined several measures being implemented to help reduce road accidents in the region.

He expressed serious concern about the growing involvement of minors in commercial motorcycle operations (Pragya), stressing that the law will be strictly enforced to stop the practice. He added that the NRSA is collaborating with various security agencies to clamp down on the illegal activity.

The Acting Regional Head further disclosed that authorities have evacuated traders operating along unauthorized roadsides in communities such as Sefwi Buako, Debiso, and Asawinso to reduce the risk of accidents.

Additionally, several individuals have been arrested for operating commercial motorcycles without valid licenses, and they are currently facing legal action.

Mr. Acheampong concluded by urging all road users to exercise caution and strictly observe road safety regulations in order to prevent further accidents and save lives in the region.
