In Los Angeles, a 31-year-old boxer was shot and killed. Police are still looking for multiple gunmen.
Mylik Birdsong, a Welterweight, was declared deceased on Sunday night at a local hospital.
He was standing outside his home in the Florence-Graham neighbourhood of Los Angeles when a “dark-coloured SUV drove by westbound on 87th and shot at the victim,” according to Los Angeles police.
Birdsong attempted to flee to the shelter of his house but was unsuccessful.
An LAPD spokesperson told KTLA 5 News, “The victim then fled towards his residence [when] two suspects from the vehicle started chasing him while shooting at him.”
First responders discovered Birdsong after he fell on the driveway. He sustained seven torso gunshot wounds.
Police said the suspects took off in the dark SUV.
Birdsong is not a well-known boxer, yet he has an excellent 15-1-1 record with 10 knockouts. On October 26, he was supposed to take on Armenian Gor Yeritsyan (18-1) at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.
He had been flaunting his new dog on the internet only the day before.
‘Good little girl,’ he stated in an Instagram post while holding a grey and white puppy with two different coloured eyes. “Look at that body.”
Mourners have since responded to that message.
One user wrote, “[I] love you forever cousin I’m so heartbroken.”
“Oh my god, honey,” said one more. “This planet is ill!” What a lovely spirit. Love has always been there since the day we met.
