The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the successful rescue and repatriation of twenty-eight (28) Ghanaian nationals who fell victim to a sophisticated human trafficking network operating in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to a press release issued on Sunday, 10th May 2026, the victims, predominantly young people, were rescued through a coordinated operation involving security operatives and officials from the Embassy of Ghana in Abidjan.
The Ministry disclosed that the operation led to the safe return of the victims to Ghana on the same day, where they are currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations into the trafficking syndicate.
Government commended the Ivorian authorities for their collaboration and intelligence-sharing efforts, which contributed significantly to the success of the rescue mission.
The Ministry further assured the public that the Mahama Administration remains committed to dismantling human trafficking networks and ensuring that the masterminds behind such criminal activities are brought to justice.
Ghanaians have meanwhile been advised to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to fraudulent recruitment and travel schemes.
The Ministry cautioned the public against dealing with unlicensed recruitment agencies that promise jobs and travel opportunities abroad without proper documentation or verification.
Citizens were encouraged to confirm the authenticity of any travel or employment offers with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, as well as Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad before making commitments.
“The welfare of all Ghanaians remains our utmost priority,” the statement emphasized.
