The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has commenced restoration efforts following a power system disturbance that affected the National Interconnected Transmission System in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
In a statement, GRIDCo said the incident occurred at about 3:11 a.m., resulting in the simultaneous tripping of some generating plants across the national power system and causing interruptions in electricity supply to affected areas.
The company said its engineers and system operators have activated established system restoration procedures and are working continuously with other power sector stakeholders to restore power to affected customers within the shortest possible time without compromising safety.
GRIDCo explained that a technical investigation has also commenced to determine the precise cause of the system disturbance.
The company assured the public that the restoration process is being carried out in accordance with established safety and operational procedures, while efforts continue to stabilise the power system.
GRIDCo apologised to the public for the inconvenience caused by the interruption and expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of affected customers.
The transmission company said it will provide further updates as more information becomes available on the restoration exercise and the outcome of the technical investigation.
