2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Black Stars cannot afford to lose against Chad – Augustine Ahinful
Former Ghana striker Augustine Ahinful has emphasized the importance of the Black Stars’ upcoming match against Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, stating that they cannot afford to lose.
Ghana’s recent struggles in international competitions were highlighted by their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, a first in two decades. As they regroup for their World Cup qualifying campaign, the four-time African champions will host Chad in the Matchday five games at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 20.
With kickoff scheduled at 19:00 GMT, Ahinful stressed the significance of securing a win against Chad. “Black Stars cannot afford to lose against Chad on Friday,” he told Asempa FM. A victory would be a crucial step towards reviving Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The Black Stars have a rich history in the World Cup, having participated in the 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022 tournaments. As they aim to strengthen their position in Group I, they will face Madagascar on Monday, March 24, in the Matchday six games, following their encounter with Chad.
