2025 Police Memorial Day: President Mahama Honours Fallen Police Officers

Tesano, Ghana, 10 December: President John Dramani Mahama today joined the Ghana Police Administration to honour serving officers and remember personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty during the year.

The solemn Police Memorial Day, marked with a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony, was held at the Police Depot of the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.

The annual ceremony is dedicated to celebrating the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of police officers both those actively serving and those who paid the ultimate price while performing their lawful duties.

This year, the Ghana Police Service honoured twenty officers who died in separate incidents while on duty. A moving roll call echoed through the parade grounds as the names of the fallen were read, stirring emotion among families, colleagues, and dignitaries present.

According to the Service, six of the personnel had their names inscribed on the Police Wall of Honour, a revered monument reserved for officers killed in active service.

The remaining fourteen officers were entered into the Memorial Book of Honour, which recognises personnel who pass away while undertaking official assignments.

The ceremony was graced by President John Dramani Mahama, the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak. Representatives of the bereaved families, senior police officers, and members of the public also attended to pay their respects.

The event highlighted the nation’s enduring commitment to honouring the courage and service of its police officers, while reaffirming the government’s support for the families left behind.
