2010 FIFAWC: Asamoah Gyan goes berserk about Black Stars in South Africa.

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has had a full blown rant on Instagram live on Black Stars captaincy, general leadership in Ghana and the infamous 2010 World Cup penalty miss against Uruguay.

In the viral video which had Gyan in an explosive voice did not hold back branding his teammates at the tournament as “coward” over infamous Uruguay penalty miss.

“How could anyone even suggest that I missed the penalty against Uruguay on purpose? How? For what exactly?”, he quizzed.

“When the penalty miss happened, I was getting abused and called names because others said I should have left it to others”, he added.

Why didn’t the others step forward to take it? They were afraid. Cowards. I will say it. They are cowards.”, he emphasized.

Gyan missed a late penalty against Uruguay in the FIFA WC Quarter Final in 2010.

The former Sunderland striker decries lack of respect and evil people are bedeviling Ghana’s quest to win trophies.

“There are evil people in this country; That’s is why we can’t win anything because of these people. They have tarnished Ghana’s reputation with dirt.

On the captaincy brouhaha, some players with in the Black Stars were brainwashed and pinned them against him but he was always delivering for the national team.

“In my time as a captain in the national team, I was alone. I only delivered on the field.

“The kids would come into the team, they are all excited to see me then three days later, they would be avoiding me all because they have been brainwashed.

“People brainwashed the kids against me so they didn’t respect me. After my departure you can see the effect. Go back and look at the kids who were brainwashed, where are they now?

“Instead of celebrating my 50th goal, you were fixated on my face on the captain’s armband.”

Asamoah Gyan took time to address purported long-standing rivalry with Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew dismissing any tension between since 2019.

According to Gyan, the tension between them was fueled by individuals with personal interests from Dede’s camp.

Andre is a good person. He has that genuine love for me, but he has been brainwashed because it benefits people. That is what has brought the so-called rivalry. Me, I am not a rival to anyone,” Gyan stated.

Similarly, the former Liberty Professionals striker cleared the past rift between him and another international teammate, Prince Tagoe alleging he was brainwashed by some unscrupulous people in the Black Stars team.

In 2018, Tagoe remarked Asamoah Gyan shouldn’t have been made Black Stars captain following Stephen Appiah’s tenure, and that didn’t go down well with Gyan who responded  by accusing Tagoe of riding on his name for fame.

“Prince Tagoe was brainwashed. People said bad things about me to him. I didn’t see eye to eye with him.” Despite their past differences, Gyan acknowledged that Tagoe had always been a good person at heart”, Gyan stated.

Gyan however stated he now has a warm relationship with the former Hearts of Oak striker.

“He has a good heart, and he’s a good person. I now have a great relationship with him,” Gyan shared.

On politics, Gyan says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) needs to come clear with their 24-hour economy policy as he believes it’s not a ‘new’ thing.

“It already exists. Police stations, hospitals, and filling stations already operate on a 24-hour basis,” he said.

“If the government says ‘24-hour economy,’ they should focus on improving it. It’s not a new policy.”, Gyan emphasized.

Gyan, who retired from international football in 2023 is Ghana’s leading topscorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances.
