Law enforcement agencies, the judiciary and legal practitioners play indispensable roles in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of citizens while ensuring that crime prevention, investigation and the prosecution of offenders are conducted within the framework of the law.
Their responsibilities include the lawful arrest, detention and prosecution of individuals suspected of committing criminal offences, always in accordance with due process.
It is therefore essential that law enforcement agencies are allowed to discharge their statutory mandates without undue interference, while the judiciary remains free to address any alleged legal violations independently and impartially.
Persistently and unjustifiably obstructing law enforcement officers from carrying out their lawful duties undermines the rule of law and risks creating conditions that could foster chaos, disorder and anarchy.
Respect for the independence of state institutions is fundamental to maintaining public confidence in the justice system and preserving Ghana’s constitutional democracy.
